My stay at The Place Hotel was a mixed bag. while the building's charm and friendly staff made for a welcoming atmosphere, the room's cleanliness and size left much to be desired. I loved the location's convenience for exploring Edinburgh, but I did find issues with air circulation and some amenities. Overall, it was a nice experience, but improvements could enhance future visits.

Rooms

My room was in the basement and quite cramped. while the bed was comfortable, the cleanliness wasn't up to par, which was disappointing. The lack of proper ventilation made it hot at night, making sleep difficult.
Service
8.0
The staff were genuinely helpful and attentive, quickly addressing my concerns. they even carried my luggage to my room, which I appreciated. However, I encountered some delays when trying to get assistance in the lounge.
Location
9.0
The location was fantastic, just a short walk from the tram terminus and Edinburgh's city center. I found it easy to explore the city and reach popular sites nearby, like Princes Street.
Dining
7.0
I enjoyed the breakfast overall, though it felt a bit overpriced for the quality. some items were less than fresh, and I had to wait for service in the lounge area. It could definitely use improvement.
Facilities

The hotel had a lovely bar that was open 24/7. but the absence of an elevator made carrying heavy luggage quite a hassle, especially on the upper floors.

7.4/10

I had a mixed experience at The Place Hotel in Edinburgh. On the positive side, the location was fantastic. just a short walk from the Playhouse and shops, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, I encountered some issues with the stairs, as there is no lift, which made lugging my bags quite an effort. The room was clean and spacious, but it felt a bit stuffy, and I struggled to get fresh air.

Rooms

The room was spacious but had limited ventilation. I struggled with the heat and could only open the window a few inches. The bed was firm, which didn't suit my sleep comfort needs.
Service
9.0
The staff were warm and attentive. they even helped with my luggage and offered great local recommendations. Their friendliness truly added to my stay.
Location

The hotel's location was perfect. an easy walk to major attractions and very close to the tram for airport access. It made exploring the city a breeze.
Dining

I had breakfast at the hotel, and it was really good. the porridge with fresh toppings was a good surprise, making for a great start to the day.
Facilities

The hotel's facilities were decent but limited. the absence of an elevator was a significant drawback for me, especially with heavy luggage.

My stay at The Place Hotel in Edinburgh was a mix of highs and lows. The hotel's location was perfect for easy access to attractions and the staff were genuinely welcoming and helpful. However, the room I stayed in was quite warm and a bit tricky to manage with the stairs (no lift, which was tough with luggage). Overall, the experience had its charms, particularly the attentive service, but some issues did slightly detract from my comfort.

Rooms
6.0
I stayed in a top floor room which was quite warm and stuffy, with limited ventilation. While it was clean, the lack of a mattress cover and the awkward layout made it less enjoyable. I would definitely recommend choosing a lower floor room if stairs aren't your friend.
Service
9.0
The staff were exceptionally friendly, offering assistance like storing my bags before check-in (which was a really nice touch). They were always smiling and ready to help, making my stay much more enjoyable despite the room issues.
Location
10.0
The location was fantastic, just a short walk from Princes Street and many key attractions. This made exploring Edinburgh incredibly convenient and enjoyable (I loved how easy it was to get around!).
Dining
7.0
Breakfast was decent when I could get it (it did get a bit chaotic at times), and while there were limited dining options at the hotel, the staff were great at recommending nearby places to eat.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel had a charming boutique feel, though it felt dated in places. The lack of lift was a significant downside, especially with luggage. The public areas were nice, but the cramped layout to the rooms could be confusing.

I had a mixed experience at The Place Hotel. While the location was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the quality of the rooms and breakfast left much to be desired. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t match the high standards I had anticipated based on the hotel’s description.

Rooms
6.0
My room was spacious, but came with its issues. The shower’s overhead was not adjustable, and I found the bedside lights challenging for reading. Additionally, the bed throw was old and had hairs on it, which was disappointing.
Service
10.0
The staff were fantastic and genuinely helpful, taking my luggage to the top floor without me having to ask. I felt welcomed throughout my stay.
Location
9.0
The location is absolutely fantastic, just a short stroll from major attractions and public transport. It was perfect for exploring Edinburgh.
Dining
5.0
Unfortunately, breakfast didn’t meet my expectations. The coffee was poor quality, the orange juice tasted synthetic, and the toast seemed a bit stale. I had to find a café afterward for something better.
Facilities
6.0
The absence of a lift was noticeable, especially on the higher floors, but I appreciated the staff’s assistance with luggage. Overall, the hotel seemed to be in need of some maintenance in certain areas.

5.2/10

My stay at The Place Hotel was certainly unique and nice. The location is perfect, really close to major attractions but located on a quiet street. However, the breakfast left much to be desired, and I found the lack of an elevator quite inconvenient. My room had its own quirks, but overall, the hotel's character and friendly service outweighed the more offbeat aspects.

Rooms
6.0
My room was cozy but down in the basement, which was a bit surreal. It felt clean and had a nice overall decor, but the towels remained perpetually damp, and the lack of ventilation was a downside.
Service
6.0
The staff were friendly and quite helpful, eager to assist with my luggage due to the stairs and even lent me an outlet converter. However, there was a certain level of confusion about their roles and tasks, which made the experience feel a bit haphazard.
Location
9.0
The hotel’s location is fantastic! Just a 5-10 minute walk to Princess Street and the Royal Mile, making it super convenient for sightseeing. Plus, having the tram stop right outside was a significant perk.
Dining
5.0
I found the breakfast buffet to be quite mediocre after my first day, opting instead to explore local eateries for a more satisfying experience. The hotel lacked diverse dining options beyond breakfast, which was disappointing.
